What is Atrial Fibrillation (or Afib)?

Atrial fibrillation or Afib is a heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia) that can affect your life significantly.

Afib causes the upper chamber of your heart to quiver fast. Together with the fast, irregular beating, this can cause common atrial fibrillation signs and symptoms, including:

  • Palpitations, the feeling that your heart is skipping a beat, fluttering, or thumping or the sensation that your heart is racing
  • Shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue
  • Chest pain

Treatment is individualized and based upon how afib is affecting you. It is extremely important that you get yourself educated about Afib, in order to make the best decision about your care.

Every patient with atrial fibrillation (afib) should have treatment targeting:

  • The symptoms that afib are causing
  • The risk of stroke

We offer several resources for you to learn about atrial fibrillation and treatment options.
